“REFLECTIONS IN A CHALICE ~ THE MEMOIRS OF A PRACTICAL PRIEST”

by The Venerable Brian Lucas (former Chaplain-in-Chief)

This book takes the reader on a journey from the author's childhood in a steel town in South Wales, through his time as a parish priest in the late 1960s, and then as a chaplain in the RAF in many parts of the world, and on to the period when he was the Chaplain-in-Chief of the RAF during the defence cuts in the early 1990s.

The latter part of the book covers the removal of the Iron Curtain and the emergence of Eastern Europe into an open democracy, and his return to the parochial ministry in Lincolnshire.

Full of humorous anecdotes, the book traces the challenges to be faced and the opportunities to be seized in the macho world of aviation, as the church loses credibility in the population at large.

The title of the book comes from the point in the Communion Service when the chalice is raised in the act of consecration, and the faces of the congregation are to be seen reflected in the polished silver.
